How about the resistance to weather?

  • The shade sail fabric filters the sun's rays, offering weatherproof and rot-resistant properties, ensuring durability. Its open-weave design allows for air circulation, providing a fresh and comfortable environment.
  • Shade sails coconut fiber typically weigh around 1,3 kg per square meter and double in weight when wet. They dry quickly due to their spaced weaving. Coconut fiber tends to slacken when wet but regains its tension when dried, reacting to humidity. It may be necessary to slightly stretch the shade sail after initial rains, especially for larger sails or those attached with coir rope.

  • After exposure to adverse weather conditions for over 3 years, some color modification may occur, particularly on the sun-exposed side. Depending on exposure, shade sails may fade or turn grey, similar to wood exposed under similar conditions. Winter removal of the shade sail is recommended to prolong its lifespan.

  • Intense sun and wind may cause fiber loss and gradual weaving thickness reduction, affecting shade sail efficiency. This becomes noticeable over several years, but wintering the shade sails helps extend their lifespan.

  • There have been no specific issues reported due to rain, snow, or frost. However, snow accumulation can significantly increase the sail's weight, potentially leading to structural collapse or rope breakage for suspended shade sails.

  • For the pergola: Attachment points are made with rope every 30 cm After rain, the canvas will dry on its own. It's possible that the shade sail may loosen, so it will need to be tightened again to maintain its initial appearance

Where to use my Shade sail ?

A shade sail made from coconut fiber serves several important functions in outdoor settings:

  1. Sun Protection: The primary function of a coconut fiber shade sail is to provide protection from the sun's harsh UV rays. At70 % It creates a shaded area underneath, which helps shield people and objects from direct sunlight. This protection is vital for preventing sunburn and reducing the risk of skin damage.
  2. Temperature Regulation: Coconut fiber shade sails help maintain a cooler environment in the shaded area. By blocking the sun's heat, they can significantly lower the temperature under the sail, making it more comfortable for outdoor activities and relaxation, especially on hot days.
  3. Enhanced Comfort: These shade sails create a comfortable outdoor space for various activities, such as dining, lounging, or playing. They reduce glare, making it easier to read, work on a laptop, or watch a screen outdoors without the discomfort of direct sunlight.
  4. Protection for Plants: Coconut fiber shade sails can be used to shade delicate plants in gardens. This protection prevents sunburn and reduces the risk of dehydration for the plants, contributing to healthier and more vibrant garden growth.
  5. Protection for Vehicles: When used in carports or parking areas, coconut fiber shade sails shield vehicles, such as cars, boats, or RVs, from prolonged sun exposure. This helps preserve the appearance and condition of vehicles and reduces interior heat buildup.
  6. Playground Safety: Installing these shade sails over playgrounds keeps the play area cooler, making it safer for children to enjoy outdoor activities without getting overheated. It also reduces the risk of sunburn while they play.
  7. Event and Gathering Spaces: Coconut fiber shade sails can be used for outdoor events, such as weddings, picnics, or parties, to create shaded seating or gathering areas. They enhance the comfort and enjoyment of attendees.
  8. Aesthetic Enhancement: Beyond their functional benefits, these shade sails add an aesthetic touch to outdoor spaces. Their natural and rustic appearance can complement the environment and create a visually appealing focal point.
  9. Environmental Friendliness: Coconut fiber is a renewable and biodegradable material, making shade sails made from it an eco-friendly choice compared to synthetic alternatives. This function aligns with sustainable and environmentally conscious practices.

Overall, the main function of a shade sail made from coconut fiber is to provide shade and protection from the sun while offering an eco-friendly and visually pleasing option for enhancing outdoor spaces

What are the advantages of a coir shade sail?

Material: Coconut fiber, also known as coir, is the primary material used in this shade sail. Coir is derived from the husk of coconuts and is known for its natural strength and durability.

Appearance: Coconut fiber shade sails typically have a rustic and organic appearance. The coir material is often left in its natural color, which is a light brown or tan hue. This natural aesthetic can blend well with outdoor environments, giving a tropical or beachy feel.

Texture: Coconut fiber has a coarse and textured surface. When woven together to create the shade sail, it retains this texture, which adds to its unique look and feel.

Durability: Coconut fiber is naturally resistant to rot and decay, making it a durable option for outdoor use. It can withstand exposure to the elements, including rain and sunlight, without deteriorating quickly.

Eco-Friendly: Sustainability, one of the significant advantages of coconut fiber shade sails is their eco-friendliness. Coir is a renewable resource, and its production does not contribute to deforestation. Additionally, it is biodegradable, so it won't harm the environment when it eventually reaches the end of its lifecycle.

Installation: Coconut fiber shade sails can be installed in a manner similar to other shade sails, typically using strong anchor points like posts or attachment points on existing structures. They are often available in various sizes and shapes to accommodate different outdoor spaces.

Functionality: Coconut fiber shade sails provide excellent shade and protection from the sun's harmful UV rays. They can be used in gardens, patios, outdoor seating areas, or over playgrounds to create a comfortable and shaded space.

Maintenance: While coconut fiber is durable, it may require some maintenance over time, such as cleaning to remove dirt and debris. Regular maintenance can help prolong its lifespan.

.

In summary, a shade sail made from coconut fiber is a natural and environmentally friendly option for creating shade in outdoor spaces. It combines the durability of coir with an attractive rustic appearance, making it a suitable choice for those looking for a sustainable and visually appealing shading solution.

Whatelse shall I know

About  The shade sails and pergola shade

The shade sail weaving sifts the sun’s rays. It is is weatherproof resistant, rot-resistant and very sturdy. It allows air to pass  through, for a fresh and pleasant feeling.

Shade sails are more or less 1.3 kg per m2, and they double in weight when wet. They dry very quickly thanks to their spaced  out weaving. Coconut fiber becomes slack once it is wet, and this feature reverts when it dries up ; it’s how coconut fiber  reacts to the humidity. It may be necessary to slightly stretch your shade sail after the first rains, specially the large sails and/or  when they’re attached with coir rope.

the shade sails are exposed to bad weather all year round for more than 3 years now. Over time, we observe a color  modification, especially on the side exposed to the sun (above). Depending on the exposure conditions, our shade sails may  turn pale or grey (same as wood exposed under similar conditions). During the winter season, it is recommended to uninstall the shade sail, which will also help to increase its lifespan

It is also recommended to impregnate the shade sail in the water  and let it dry before installation. This allows the sail to retract the coconut fiber to maintain its initial shape.

For each sail, it is preferable to have a rope with a diameter of 16/18 mm to adjust your attachment points (we manufacture and supply the rope).

Strong sun and wind can lead to fiber loss which then leads to the weaving thickness gradual diminution, and therefore  impact the shade sail efficiency.

This becomes apparent after several years though and the shade sails wintering allows them to last longer.

We are not aware of any particular problems due to rain, snow or frost. Just note that snow can significantly increase the  sail’s weight and lead to, either a collapse of the supporting structure or a rope breach regarding the suspended  shade sails.
